Nicky found she had a talent for archery by chance. At the age of 11 her brother had tried the sport within Scouts and found a local archery club, and she followed. She saw quick success and represented England by the age of 12 and went on to shoot for Great Britain as a junior with the recurve bow.
Determined to become a physiotherapist, Nicky studied hard resulting in less training time. This seemed like the perfect time to switch to the compound bow. Whilst at university, Nicky represented Great Britain at the World University Games in 2005 and the World Archery Championships in 2006. After completing her physiotherapy degree, Nicky finally had the chance to train more seriously, and after a year she represented Great Britain for the first time at senior level. She won her first individual international medal at the European Indoor Championships in 2008.
In 2009 Nicky became the first Britain to win a World Cup stage and ended the World Cup Series ranked 1st. 2010 was a fantastic year, in which she made 3 of the 4 World Cup stage gold medal finals, taking home two Silver and one Gold medal and was ranked number one in the world. She finished the season winning Individual and Team gold at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi - England's first archery gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for 28 years.
Sadly, compound archery is not an Olympic sport but recurve is, so Nicky has switched back to the recurve bow she loved as a junior to pursue her Olympic dream. After just 18 months of training, Nicky narrowly missed out on a place at London 2012, and is now aiming for a medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
