As we enter week two of a second national lockdown, this will no doubt be another period of huge uncertainty for the workforce and with gyms and clubs forced to close their doors once again and other activities cancelled, this has a massive impact on our everyday lives, not to mention our own mental health. Active Suffolk are here to support you as much as we can so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us for further support and guidance.

Made By Sport #ClubsInCrisis Competition

As we are now in lockdown once again, our sports clubs and communities will continue to be deeply affected by this crisis, which is impacting all of our lives. This week Made by Sport is launching its #ClubsInCrisis competition to create a platform for clubs to share their stories and to help continue to raise awareness of the massive social value of our local sports clubs and organisations. There's also the chance to win £5k for your club or organisation!

Support is growing for the Save Our Sports campaign and the petition for a Sport Recovery and the aim is to help build on this with individual stories from across the UK. We want to ensure this competition reaches the 150,000+ sports clubs and organisations in the UK, so we can help share their stories and build-up momentum. If we garner enough content we can continue to seed this into national press and keep it at the forefront on the news agenda. Along with the competition push we will encourage clubs and the public to sign the Sports Recovery Fund petition.

How to enter #ClubsInCrisis

Step 1: - Record a 1-2 minute video explaining:

  •   what your clubs does
  •   how it addresses key social issues such as developing life skills, improving mental health, reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, developing employability skills & building stronger communities
  •   How its closure could impact you and the community and how the #ClubsInCrisis funding will make a difference

Step 2: - Post your video on your Social Media using the hashtag #ClubsInCrisis

Step 3: - Complete the entry form with your social link on the Made By Sport website

The competition is open now and will run until 10 December 2020 and will be judged by members of the Made By Sport board. Winners will be contacted by the end of December 2020. Please also get your club members to sign the #saveoursports petition for the Sports Recovery Fund.

We need to come together to #saveoursports and keep our #ClubsInCrisis open! Good Luck!

Online Learning & CPD

Whilst we're forced to spend more time at home, many training providers are now offering a blended or online learning approach as this seems to be the way forwards and will most likely need to continue in this way for some time to come.

UK Coaching have a number of online courses available, and on 23rd November they will be launching their new Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop specifically designed for 16 to 18-year-old coaches. As with the 18+ Safeguarding & Protecting Children Online Classroom it will include access to a digital resource for each learner (valid on their dashboard for 3 months) and their certification – valid for two years, after which time the young coach will need to attend the face to face 18+ Safeguarding & Protecting Children workshop.

To find out more and to book on from 23rd November onwards please refer to the UK Coaching website, or contact Active Suffolk to organise a closed online course for your learners.

British Orienteering have also just launched their Introduction to Orienteering eLearning course. This interactive online learning course goes through all the basics and will equip teachers and outdoor leaders with the knowledge and confidence to introduce Orienteering within their setting. For more information please see their website
