One of Suffolk's This Girl Can ambassadors shared a heart-warming video of some of her Zumba participants shaking their thing on a street in Ipswich this week!
Sarah - Ann Gray joined as a This Girl Can ambassador in Suffolk over two years ago, after falling in love with Zumba and finding a passion for supporting others to get fit in a fun way!
She told us:
"I once worked in a town where I didn't know anyone, gained a few extra curves and hated the gym. Having heard about Zumba I finally decided to give it a whirl. As soon as the music began I loved it, a total party atmosphere and my hips started to move in ways I never knew they could! Whilst making new friends I toned up those curves & even learnt to love my chunky wobbly thighs (I OWN them!). I enjoyed shaking my jiggly bits and embraced the skin I'm in!"
Sarah's love for her new found hobby, soon turned into passion and she decided to qualify to teach Zumba herself. It didn't stop there, Sarah went on to expand her skills by qualifying to teach Zumba Gold and Zumba Kids. As a result she has recently turned her part time passion into her full time job where she delivers regular classes across Ipswich.
The new found confidence that Zumba gave Sarah was something she keen to support others to find, particularly women who we know are often underrepresented in sport and physical activity. Her role as a This Girl Can ambassador in Suffolk, in addition to her role as an instructor has allowed her to help others break down barriers and find passion in physical activity.
"Since the Covid-19 outbreak, I have had to think of new ways that I can support my classes. I have taken my passion to the virtual world where I am now delivering regular Zumba, Zumba Gold and Zumba Kids online. This week, one of my regular Zumba Gold participants took the class to the streets, supporting her neighbours to get involved with my class whilst continuing to obey the social distancing rules."
The video which Sarah shared on her social media channels has put a smile on lots of people's faces as we finish our sixth week in lockdown. Check out the full video at https://youtu.be/v_ATWLndlJU
