Tennis for teens: fun fitness session introduced in Mid Suffolk to help teenage girls get more active

A new Satellite Club is launching in Mid Suffolk this week to target inactive teenage girls and encourage more girls to take up tennis.
The 'Cardio Tennis' club is a fun and sociable girls-only fitness session where participants play along to music with the support and guidance of a qualified instructor.
The sessions are aimed at teenage girls, specifically 14 to 19 year olds who are participating in less than 150 hours of sport and/or physical activity each week. Satellite Clubs are designed to target this young age group, members of which may be likely to demonstrate less involvement in physical activity, due to factors such as the transition between school and college as well as other significant life changes that may prevent them from taking part.
Emily Wharton, who will be delivering the Satellite Club, is a friendly and experience Level 4 Tennis Coach and is currently one of the East Region Ambassadors for Judy Murray's 'She Rallies' initiative, a programme developed to empower and expand the number of women and girls coaching and playing tennis across the UK.
The Cardio Tennis sessions are being hosted by Wortham Tennis Club and the first session is on Thursday 20th September, between 5.30 and 6.30pm. The sessions only cost 50p to attend and are welcome to all abilities. They are adapted to the needs of the participant and are focused around having fun rather than focusing on specific tennis technique, so no prior tennis experience is required. Participants are even able to earn rewards the more they attend; t-shirts are given to those who attend 5 sessions and those who attend 20 receive a free hoodie.
