Registration open for Women on Wheels (WoW) Bury St Edmunds for 2017

Following the success of recent years, the hugely popular Women on Wheels (WoW) event will return to Bury St Edmunds for the fourth year in 2017, and registrations are now open.

The event will take place on Sunday July 9th from Nowton Park, Nowton Road, Bury St. Edmunds, beginning at 8am, and participants this year can choose from either the 10, 25, 50 or 75 mile route, and there's a 50% early bird discount available until the 2nd January 2017.

The event will be sponsored again this year by specialist bike retailer Revel Outdoors and is organised by Abbeycroft Leisure in partnership with Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Sport.

The WoW ride is a fantastic initiative to encourage women and girls to get on their bikes, experience the benefits of cycling and see what fun it can be. It's aimed at women cyclists only, new or experienced, young and old, to challenge themselves around some beautiful local routes and all monies raised will again go to a very worthwhile local charity, St Nicholas Hospice Care, Bury St Edmunds.

The WoW event which took place earlier this year in Bury St Edmunds, raised £6142 for the Hospice who provide help, advice and support to people in West Suffolk and Thetford in the final chapters of their life, who are living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.

The event this year was also supported by locality funding from Suffolk County Councillor Sarah Stamp and Bury St.Edmunds Town Councillors, Ann Williamson and Patrick Chung.

George Chilvers, Community Fundraiser at St Nicholas Hospice Care said "We're delighted that Women on Wheels has become a permanent fixture in our fundraising calendar and we're ever so grateful for the wonderful amount raised and all the support that we have received. Every day it costs over £11,000 to keep the hospice running and it's thanks to the amazing support from events like WOW that we are able to continue offering the vital services we provide throughout West Suffolk and Thetford.

Owner of Revel Outdoors, Sarah Wightman said: "We're delighted to be involved with WOW again next year. We would love to see even more women take up or come back to cycling and experience the benefits that it can offer and are particularly excited about the new 10 mile route planned for next year's event!"

Alison Blackwell, Abbeycroft Leisure's Development Director, said: "We're already excited about next years event, with some new initiatives being planned and I would urge anyone who's interested to take advantage of the early bird discount and sign up now. Cycling is a great way to appreciate our beautiful county and this event helps us in our ambition to become England's Most Active County"
