The St Edmundsbury Sailing and Canoeing Association's Club Open Day will now take place on Sunday, 4 July at Lackford Lake, 5 miles NW of Bury St Edmunds. This is an opportunity for members of the public to come along and find out about the Club and try their hand at sailing or kayaking for free.

SESCA's Rescheduled RYA #DiscoverSailing Club Open Day

The event forms part of the RYA's (Royal Yachting Association) 'Discover Sailing' initiative to encourage everyone to get out on the water and try sailing and boating.

Weather permitting, sailing and kayaking taster sessions and joy rides will be run on an as available basis. Buoyancy aids will be provided but please bring soft soled shoes, a towel and a change of clothes if you want to sail - as you may get wet! Unfortunately, we will not be able to take out children under 7 years old. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration and disclaimer forms will need to be completed before going afloat.

Representatives of other organisations that sail at the Club, including the Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket and Mildenhall Sea Cadets; Young People Afloat (a sailing youth club); Suffolk Scouts and WASH Sailability (disabled sailing) will be on hand to answer questions. SESCA is a small, family orientated club which runs on-water events from the last weekend in March until early November. The Club organises dinghy racing on Sundays and Thursday evenings throughout the summer. The Club also runs RYA sailing courses and coaching sessions for members.

A fleet of Club boats is available for hire to members, so it is not necessary to own your own dinghy or kayak if you want to sail or paddle.

Whether you are interested in dinghy sailing (pottering or racing), canoeing, kayaking or just like the great outdoors, you are most welcome to visit the Club to see what we have to offer. Unfortunately no dogs are permitted on the site, as the Club is located in a Nature Reserve.
